HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Horizon Goodwill Industries expanded its local footprint Thursday with the grand opening of its College Road retail store, coinciding with the launch of the annual “Spring into Education” donation drive benefiting Washington County Public Schools.
The new facility, located at 18360 College Road, opened its doors at 9 a.m. The retail location allows community members to shop for discounted items while supporting the nonprofit’s mission of providing job training and employment barriers removal.
Simultaneously, Horizon Goodwill has partnered with the Education Foundation of WCPS for a donation event running through March 27. Residents are encouraged to clear out closets and drop off gently used clothing, shoes, housewares, books, and collectables into blue donation bins located at every WCPS school.
The drive includes a competitive element to incentivize school participation. Prizes are awarded based on the weight of donations collected relative to the number of students at each school. The first-place school will receive the Goodwill Cup Trophy and $1,000, while the second and third-place schools will receive $500 and $250, respectively. An additional $750 will be awarded to the top overall school.
