Mr. James Horace Thrailkill, 90, of Waynesboro, PA passed away Monday, March 16, 2026 in his home surrounded by family.
Born August 20, 1935 in Atlanta, GA, he was the son of the late Horace S. and Mary Katherine (Alexander) Thrailkill.
After graduating from Fulton County High School in 1954, Mr. Thrailkill attended Georgia State University before entering the U. S. Army, where he served for 8 years; 2 of those years were on active duty. He served as an MP while he was stationed at Fort Ritchie, Cascade, MD
He and his wife of 65 years, Doris L. (Buhrman) Thrailkill, were married on December 31, 1960 at the Germantown Church of God, Cascade, MD.
Mr. Thrailkill was employed as a maintenance warranty manager, working for U.S. Air, Hensen Aviation, Shorts Aircraft, Inc., and Fairchild Aircraft.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Waynesboro and previously served as a youth director at Germantown Church of God. Mr. Thrailkill was a little league coach and always participated in his kids sports as they were growing. He loved to travel.
Mr. Thrailkill was described as a quiet man, with great integrity. His life was faith based. He was compassionate and very committed to his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: David Thrailkill (Amy) of Marietta, GA, Daniel Thrailkill (Pam) of Hagerstown, MD, Taryn Henderson (Mark) of Powhatan, VA and Sharon Thrailkill of Goochland, VA; his grandchildren: Tyler Thrailkill, Garrett Thrailkill, Cal Thrailkill (Mikaela), Shane Thrailkill, Renee Hartzog (Zack), Sadie Thrailkill, Alden Custer, David Henderson, Daniel Henderson, Josie Lawrence (Travis); his great-grandchildren: Owen and Addie Lawrence; his brothers: David Thrailkill (Genie) and Eugene Thrailkill; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: William Thrailkill and Douglas Thrailkill.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 21, 2026 in Germantown Church of God, 16924 Raven Rock Road, Cascade, MD with Pastor Guy Nesbitt officiating. Burial with military honors provided by Charles Nitterhouse Post#1599, will follow in the adjoining Bethel Church Cemetery, following the service.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Friday evening, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
