Mr. William M. “Bill” Hine, 86, a resident of Quincy Village and formerly of Blue Ridge Summit, PA passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born February 9, 1940 in Ranson, WV, he was the son of the late Henry M. and Cora E. (Whittington) Hine.

Bill graduated from Charles Town (WV) High School with the Class of 1958. He graduated from Shepherd College in 1963 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Physical Education.

He and his wife of over 59 years, the late Patricia E. “Pat” (Gordon) Hine, were married on November 27, 1965, in Mount Jackson, VA. Mrs. Hine died on July 3, 2025.

Bill was a teacher in the Waynesboro Area School District for over 34 years, teaching at both East Junior High and the Waynesboro Area Middle School. He retired on June 30, 1998. Bill coached varsity middle school boys basketball for over 15 seasons and coached junior high football for several years. Following his retirement from teaching, he operated a painting business for a number of years. Bill was also an instructor for the Waynesboro Summer Recreation Program, where he provided tennis lessons to adults and students.

He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro, for over 45 years. He was also a longtime and dedicated member of the Waynesboro YMCA, where he continued his lifelong commitment to physical fitness. Bill also volunteered for many years with the Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary.

Bill was an avid tennis and pickleball player and could often be seen on the courts at Memorial Park. He loved yearly trips to the beach with family and especially enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren in their sporting events. He will be remembered for his competitive and fiery spirit in athletics.

He is survived by two sons, Derek W. Hine (Rita) of Waynesboro, PA and Duane P. Hine (Kim) of Hagerstown, MD; four grandchildren, Rachel Dahlstrand (John), Evan Hine (Christa), Logan Hine and Zander Hine; two great-grandchildren, Ava Dahlstrand and Grace Dahlstrand; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the last of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Charles Henry Hine, on March 15, 2008.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA with Pastor Drahus Oslik officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., Saturday morning, in the welcome center of the church.
