HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Washington County Parks & Recreation officials announced Tuesday a major upgrade to the playground at Woodland Way Park, with work set to begin immediately and continue in phases through the year.
The playground will close starting Wednesday, March 11, as crews remove the existing equipment and prepare the site for new installations.
The revamped area will include two modular play structures tailored to different age groups, along with new swings and a climber-spinner, all designed to provide safe and engaging play options for children of various ages. Officials noted that while the final setup may differ slightly from initial concept renderings, it will closely match the vision previously shared with the community.
The project will unfold over multiple phases in 2026. Playground installation is scheduled for late March through early April. An Earth Day tree-planting event is planned for April 22. Pavilion installation will follow in May and June, and pathway repaving is slated for the fall.
“These upgrades reflect our ongoing commitment to providing safe, engaging, and accessible recreational spaces for families in Washington County,” Public Works Director Andrew Eshleman said in a statement. “We’re excited to equip the park with amenities so it remains a community gathering space that kids and families can enjoy for years to come.”
