Mrs. Saundra “Sandy” Stites Alleman, 73, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Wellspan York Hospital.

Born February 26, 1953, in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert M. and Isabella R. (Martin) Stites.

She graduated from Waynesboro Senior High School with the class of 1972. She later obtained her LPN from CareerTech, formally VoTech, Chambersburg, PA in 1974.

She and her husband, John F. Alleman were married April 28, 1979 in the United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.

What started at the Waynesboro hospital, Mrs. Alleman worked her entire career as a nurse. She worked in the emergency room department, the operating room, and even did pediatric nursing. After leaving the hospital, she went to work for the Waynesboro School District as the school nurse, and later the Greencastle School District. She formally retired in 2015.

She was an active member of Otterbein Church, Greencastle, where she sang in the church choir. Throughout her life she was deeply involved in her community, participating in the Greencastle Woman’s Club and supporting both the Greencastle and Waynesboro Fire Departments. She also served on the Greencastle Old Home Week committee. A devoted supporter of youth and school activities, she was the den leader for Cub Scouts Packs 13 and 287, and later served as president of both the football and band booster clubs.

In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, crafting, and was an avid reader who loved participating in book clubs. She especially enjoyed card games, playing dominos and hitting the person beside her for laying the wrong domino down, and spending time with her family, often organizing memorable family reunions. She looked forward to watching her favorite daytime dramas, including General Hospital, All My Children, and Days of Our lives. She also enjoyed watching Penn State football.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her two children, Michael “Mike” Alleman of Greencastle, and Justin Alleman and his wife Samantha of Gettysburg, PA; her siblings, Shirley Baker (Earl Jr.), Kay Snowberger, Bertha Grove (Benjamin), and Sue Veilleux (Daris); 2 Nephews, 5 Nieces, 6 Great Nephews, 6 Great Nieces, 10 Great, Great Nephews, 11 Great-Great Nieces; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Julie Leister (Paul), Sue Powell, Jay Alleman (Kelly), Jeff Alleman (Megan), and Lance May.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister Nancy Toms, and her brother and sisters-in-law, Jack Toms, Donald Snowberger, David and Saundra Alleman, Bruce Powell, and Linda May.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 11, 2026 in Otterbein United Brethren Church, 146 Leitersburg St., Greencastle with Pastor David Rawley officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, and again one hour prior to the services Wednesday morning in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Otterbein United Brethren Church, 146 Leitersburg St., Greencastle, PA.
