It was a rough night for Washington County in the opening round of the Maryland State Basketball tournament.
Six of the eight teams on the floor Friday were eliminated as just the North Hagerstown and Boonsboro boys teams advanced second round. Three boys teams and all three of the girls teams finished their seasons.
The boys and girls teams for Class 1A Smithsburg and Class 2A Williamsport had the weekend off after earning first-round byes. They will play on Monday (boys) and Tuesday (girls)
In fact, Boonsboro, No. 3 seed in the Class 1A West Section II bracket will travel to face the No. 2-seeded Smithsburg boys on Monday. The fourth-seeded Hubs will travel to face top-seeded Oakdale in the Class 3A West Section I semifinal matchup on Monday at 6 p.m.

FREDERICK, Md. – Senior Aniyah Freeman closed her Rebels career with 22 points and 12 rebounds as sixth-seeded South was ousted by third-seed Thomas Johnson.
Freeman also had seven steals and five blocked shots.
Khloe Terralonge added 14 points for the Rebels with four rebounds and two steals, while Kristen Gyamfi had four points and seven rebounds.
