Members of the award-winning “Friends Thru Fiber” team recently visited Menno Haven’s Chambers Pointe Health Center in Chambersburg to share highlights of their victory at the 110th Pennsylvania Farm Show’s sheep-to-shawl competition.
The Franklin County-based fiber arts team captured first place earlier this year, demonstrating their skill in turning raw fleece into a finished shawl during the timed contest—a tradition that combines craftsmanship, teamwork and heritage.
State Reps. Chad Reichard, R-Franklin, and Tom Mehaffie, R-Dauphin, attended the event and presented House certificates recognizing the team’s achievement and contributions to promoting Pennsylvania’s agricultural and artisanal roots.
Friends Thru Fiber members include Michelle Lushbaugh, Jill Schooley, Dan Dially, Joyce Mellott, Julie Shindle and Carolyn Stratton. The group, known for participating in community demonstrations, continues to share the art and science of fiber production—educating the public on the process “from sheep to shawl.”
