HCC announces seminars for annual Flower & Garden Show

HAGERSTOWN – The Hagerstown Community College Alumni Association will hold its 30th Annual Flower and Garden Show on Saturday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the ARCC.

More than 130 exhibitors and vendors will take part in the tri-state area’s largest floral event, and will include nurseries, distributors of lawn and garden equipment, pottery, statuary, landscaping, tree services, water ponds, stone products, herbs, violets, spring flowers, house plants, outdoor furniture, florists, wild bird products, gifts, gourmet foods and natural gifts from the garden.

Seminars and demonstrations on a variety of gardening topics will be held continuously throughout both days of the event.

Saturday seminars include:

10:30 a.m. – “GARDENING FOR HUMMINGBIRDS,” Annette Cormany, Horticulture Educator, UMD Extension – Washington County

11:30 a.m. – “SPOTTED LANTERNFLY AND BOX TREE MOTH: WHAT’S FACT, WHAT’S FICTION, AND WHY IT MATTERS,” Madeline Potter, Entomology & Integrated Pest Management Educator, UMD Extension – Washington County

12:30 p.m. – “LOCAL WILD FLOWERS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM,” Wanda Miller, Potomac Valley Master Naturalist

1:30 p.m. – “PROPOGATING PLANTS FOR HOME AND GARDEN,” Ginger Grimes, Former Owner & Operator Ginger’s Florist

2:30 p.m. – “HERBALISM: MAKING REMEDIES FROM GARDEN TO KITCHEN,” Gina Bondurant, RN, BSN, CHTP/I Nurse, Healing Beyond Borders

3:30 p.m. – “LIGHT POLLUTION AND WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT,” Jesse Melton, DarkSky International – Harpers Ferry Chapter

Sunday seminars include:

11 a.m. – “GROWING YOUNG GARDENERS,” Susan Stull, Washington County Extension Master Gardener

12 p.m. – “FOREST POLLINATORS: STEWARDING TINY WILDLIFE IN YOUR WOODS AND BACKYARD,” Bob Schwartz, CBLP, Maryland Forest Service

1 p.m. – “PRESERVING & RESTORING AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL, ONE YARD AT A TIME,” Becky Schubert, Owner, The Native Niche

2 p.m. – “SPRING TULIP WREATH MAKING,” Kim Ritter, Owner, Kimbees Creations

Admission is $5 for adults and free for children under 12. Proceeds benefit the HCC Alumni Association. Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase at the Garden Café. Free parking and garden-themed children’s activities will be available.
