Washington County government and area school districts have announced closures and schedule adjustments for Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, due to ongoing winter weather conditions.
Washington County government declared liberal leave for all non-essential employees for the entire day Tuesday. Essential personnel are expected to report to work as scheduled.
County officials urged anyone who must travel to use extreme caution, emphasizing safe practices such as clearing snow and ice from vehicles, reducing speeds, staying alert to conditions, and avoiding passing snowplows.
School and university schedule changes
School districts and institutions across the region announced the following operational changes for Tuesday, Jan. 27:
- Washington County Public Schools: Closed.
- Waynesboro Area School District: Closed; Snow makeup day scheduled for April 2.
- Greencastle-Antrim School District: Closed; Flexible instruction day will be in effect.
- Chambersburg Area School District: Closed; Offices for 248-day staff will operate on a two-hour delay.
- Shippensburg University: Delayed opening until 10 a.m.
- Hagerstown Community College: Delayed opening until 10 a.m.
- Franklin County Career and Technology Center: Operates on work-based Learning; instructors will share assignments via the learning platform.
