CHAMBERSBURG – “Answering the Alarm in Chambersburg,” a public talk focusing on the early days of the Chambersburg Fire Department, will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at St. John’s United Church of Christ. The program will feature Franklin County historian Mike Marotte and is open to community members interested in local fire service history.
The talk, titled “Answering The Alarm in Chambersburg,” will explore how the Chambersburg Fire Department was organized and how its volunteers responded to emergencies in the department’s early years. The program will take place in Fellowship Hall (Lot B) at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East.
Marotte will lead the presentation, drawing on historical photographs and records to trace the development of Chambersburg’s fire protection efforts. Attendees can expect stories about the community’s early fire apparatus, the people who served and how the growing borough adapted to new firefighting technology over time.
The church is inviting residents, history enthusiasts and members of the local fire service to attend the evening program and learn more about Chambersburg’s firefighting roots. The event offers an opportunity for community members to connect over shared local history and to recognize the legacy of fire service in the borough.
