Mr. Ernest C. “Ernie” Fogle, Jr., 72, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Monday, December 29, 2025, in the Chambersburg hospital.

Born October 23, 1953, in Mountaindale, MD, he was the son of the late Ernest C. Fogle, Sr., and Dixie (Harley) Fogle. Ernest was a proud resident of Beartown from 1987 until his passing, a place he truly called home.

He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, Frederick, MD, with the class of 1971.

Better known as “Ernest T. Bass and “Ernesto Diaz”, he was a faithful member of Brook Hill Methodist Church, Mountaindale. Ernie was a man of God, whose faith guided him through tremendous challenges and shaped the way he lived his life. At just thirteen years old, he was struck by a motor vehicle while riding his bicycle. Doctors did not believe he would survive. When he did, they said he would never walk again. Through numerous surgeries and skin grafts, and with unwavering faith, Ernie proved them wrong. He always credited God for his survival and recovery, choosing gratitude over bitterness and thankfulness for each day he was given.

Above all else- aside from serving the Lord – Ernie lived to fish. Fishing was not just a hobby, but his passion and joy. He kept meticulous fishing journals and could recall exactly what he caught, where he was, and what lure he used, even decades later. Fishing brought him peace, purpose, and connection to God’s creation.

Ernie is survived by his son, Lucas Fogle and his wife, Chloe Fogle of Waynesboro; beloved granddaughters, Lily and Claire Fogle; one brother, Keith Fogle and his wife Juana , along with their children, Justin Fogle, Shawn Fogle, Nicki Fogle, and Hannah Fogle. He is also survived by his loyal friends, Alan Smith, Joe Rice, and Tim Hartman, who shared in friendship and memories throughout his life; as well as an extended host of friends and family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bruce Fogle; one sister, Annie Hagelin; one sister-in-law, Debbie Fogle; and his best friend and loyal fur companion Popcorn who was always by his side.

A celebration of Ernie’s life will be held at 6:00 P.M., Monday, January 5, 2026, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Rev Dr. Dana Werts officiating.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Monday evening in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
