REDERICK, Md. – The Smithsburg girls basketball team remained undefeated on Friday, prevailing in what might be considered a test of strength.
Skyla Mastronardi led the Leopards with 24 points, including four of the team’s 11 3-pointers in a 66-57 victory over Linganore in a Christmas tournament at Hood College.
Smithsburg (8-0) is a Class 1A school while Linganore (6-1) plays in Class 3A.
Mastronardi, a senior, was one of four Leopards to put up double-digit outputs. She added six assists, five rebounds and three steals in her all-around outing.
Claire Bono added 14 points, while Kara Hoover scored 12 and Jayda Tyler had 11 for Smithsburg.
Bono scored three 3-pointers and had five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Hoover had six rebounds and two steals.
Smithsburg returns to Hood College on Saturday to face Urbana.
Old Mill 62, South Hagerstown 41
FREDERICK, Md. – Aniyah Freeman and Khloe Terralonge combined for 36 points in the Rebels loss to Old Mill in opening day of the Candy Cane Classic mixer at Thomas Johnson High School.
Freeman connected on eight of 11 free throws for the game while adding five rebounds and two blocks.
Terralonge connected on six of 10 free throws and had four rebounds.
South returns to action on Saturday against Friendly High School.

CUMBERLAND, Md. – D.J. Wade Jr. scored 17 points to help the Rebels overpower Fort Hill in a Christmas Mixer tournament.
Luke Leisinger and Avery Cosley added 13 points each as South placed five players in double figures. Leisinger had seven rebounds and four assists, while Cosley collected seven boards with three assists. Wade also had five rebounds.
Nazir Mitchell had 12 points and Jayson Contreras scored 11 for the Rebels.
South plays Allegany on Saturday.
