WAYNESBORO – Chris Elliott, who directs a program called FAR Reach Ministries, spoke to Waynesboro Rotarians last week about his work to support childhood education and pastoral training in east-central Africa.
FAR is an acronym for Faith, Action, and Results, Chris said, and is basically a one-man organization— him. A Church of the Brethren pastor, Chris has worked with Brethren groups in Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya, providing financial and material support for schools, agricultural education and training.
He said there has been considerable congregational growth in some areas, with 52 Brethren congregations
formed in Burundi since 2015. His program has helped establish educational academies and pastoral training schools.
There has been some backlash in Rwanda, where the government has shut down many of the Brethren congregations. Rotarians and others interested in helping the FAR Reach ministry can reach Elliott at: 584 Sinoquipe Road, Fort Littleton, PA 17223, or by email at [email protected].
