Sniff notes: Letty’s long journey

Let me tell you the story of Letty. Oh how this precious girl has stolen so many hearts.

Her story began in May of 2013 – that’s about when we figure she was born. She came into the shelter Dec. 10, 2013 when she was about seven months old. She’s a tabby with white girl who is just so nice.

Sweet Letty was adopted by a very nice man almost a year later in December. He had her for about five years when he became sick. He was afraid his illness wouldn’t allow him to care for her, so he brought her back to the shelter.

That was a rough day for all of us because he was incredibly sad to have to say goodbye to her. I’m sure he was also certainly upset about being sick. It always breaks my heart when people have to surrender their animals during times like that because whenever I’m not feeling well, I know my cats help me feel better.

But Letty’s dad just wasn’t sure he could give her the life she needed.

Within about five months, his health actually began improving, and he had to return for Letty to adopt her again. He just missed her so much and couldn’t be without her any more.

Letty stayed with him for another almost four years before his health became bad once again, and he had to return her. Her dad sponsored her at the shelter almost every month until she was adopted again almost six months later.

He was a good kitty dad, for sure.

The lady who adopted her had Letty for about two years. Letty’s mom became sick and had to bring her back to the shelter. This was another rough day for all of us because her mom really loved her, but just couldn’t care for her like she once had.

Now Letty is back with us, and she is 12 years old.

You all, this poor girl just stays in her bed at the shelter. She doesn’t even look out of her cage – she faces the back of the kennel. Every time she’s had to come back here, she gets so depressed.

Since she first arrived at seven months old, she has lived in a shelter cage four times in her life.

You can easily tell how much it affects her to be here.

I can’t help but worry that she thinks she’s doing something wrong and that’s why she keeps ending up at the shelter time and time again. That couldn’t be further from the truth. It was just life circumstances that brought her back to us so many times.

Everyone at the shelter talks about how gentle and nice she is. Our adoption counselor, Jade, said she’s the sweetest older lady.

We all just love her and want to see her out of a cage so she can be happy again. She will be with us and we will take care of her until that time comes, but we sure hope it’s sooner rather than later.

In fact, I would be willing to bet that we would all put Letty finding a home for Christmas pretty high on our list.

If you or anyone you know would be willing and able to take a senior cat into your home and love her for the rest of her life, you would make a whole lot of people at CVAS incredibly happy.

Letty deserves the best in life and more than anything, she deserves to be back in a home where she can snuggle and watch the birds out the window and know that she won’t ever have to be in a cage again.

Could you give that to her?
