Mr. Gerald M. “Jerry” Maguire, Sr., 79, of Myersville, MD, passed away Friday, November 14, 2025, in Julia Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hagerstown, MD.
Born September 27, 1946, in Cheverly, MD, he was the son of the late William G. and Ellen Anne (Mayhew) Maguire.
Jerry was a graduate of High Point High School, Beltsville, MD with the Class of 1966. He later completed his Plumbing Apprenticeship at the University of Maryland, College Park.
He and his wife, Mrs. Deborah L. (Fitz) Maguire were married on May 20, 1970, in Upper Marlboro, MD.
Jerry was employed as the Maintenance Supervisor at the Graduate Housing Apartments at the University of Maryland, College Park from 1973-1986. After moving to Myersville in 1985, and building his home in 1986, Jerry served as the Maintenance Supervisor at Fort Ritchie, MD from 1986-1988. Prior to his retirement on December 31, 2009, he was the Renovations Supervisor at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, MD.
In addition to his family, Jerry had two main loves of his life, music and cars. He was a professional drummer, playing in several bands including the Joe Carta Band where he played for 30 years. A “Chevy” man, he owned over 100 cars during his lifetime: his favorites being the 1st generation Camaros (1967-1969) and the 1962 Impala.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two children, Gerald M. Maguire, Jr. of Myersville, and Cindy Scully of Hagerstown; one grandson, Gerald M. “Michael” Maguire, III; and his loving fur companions Penny and Arnold.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
A memorial service to honor Jerry’s life will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, November 20, 2025, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Father Paul Breczinski officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Thursday afternoon in the funeral home.
An additional celebration to honor Jerry’s life will be held in Greenbelt, MD in the Spring of 2026.
