Mr. Reginald H. “Reg” Diller, 93, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Friday, November 7, 2025, in Quincy Village nursing home.

Born March 4, 1932, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Job S. Diller and Helen M. Stockslager Diller.

He was a graduate of Waynesboro Senior High School with the Class of 1949.

Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and spent 3 years in Hawaii at Pearl Harbor. He became interested in Amateur radio and earned a General Class License in 1952, later he earned the Extra class. His call sign was W3VTF. He was an avid teletype and digital modes operator. Also, while in the islands he learned to love Hawaiian type music and started on a long career of playing and building pedal steel guitars having his own brand called HMS.

Following an honorable discharge in April 1953, he returned home. On July 30, 1955, he married, Shirley Jane McFerren, daughter of Margaret A. McFerren, in Hagerstown, MD. Shirley passed away April 16, 2020. They had two children, Saundra L. Diller Barnett and Brian K. Diller. They also had one granddaughter, Shannon E. Barnett (husband, Kevin G. Foose); and a treasured friend, Aaron Sersion.

Reg was a former member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro, having served there as secretary, trustee and numerous other offices.

He worked at various jobs starting out with delivery helper for Arthur’s Dairy with Ed Rudy, Fairchild Aircraft, Landis Machine Co., Landis Tool Co., and 34 years with Mack Trucks in Hagerstown. Retiring in 1996 as a journeyman toolmaker, he then worked part-time for Atlas Instrument Co. of Chambersburg for several years.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brother, Kenneth L. Diller; sister, Lois M. Diller Stanley; sister-in-law, Pauline M. Mentzer Diller; brother-in-law, William F. Stanley; and son-in-law, Edward L. Barnett.

Reg enjoyed music, fishing and fooling around his little workshop making all sorts of whirley gigs, gas engines, guitars and Ham radio stuff.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, November 13, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with the Rev. Ron Cook officiating.  Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
