Linda Lee Seibert, 77, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, October 6, 2025. Born in Hagerstown on September 3, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Elwood Seibert and Jeanette Bester Seibert.
Linda was a 1966 graduate of South Hagerstown High School and received an Associate of Arts degree in psychology from Hagerstown Community College in 1980, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in law and society from Hood College, Frederick, MD, in 1982. In addition, she held a certificate in counseling and educating from the University of Florida at Gainesville.
Linda spent many years nurturing and guiding students in Washington County as a substitute teacher, and later as a special education teacher for the board of education, and at Saint Maria Goretti High School. She also taught at Hagerstown Business College. In 2007, she was recognized as Teacher of the Year by the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Division of Catholic Schools, for her work at Goretti.
Prior to her teaching career, she was a counselor and administrator at Colton Villa Nursing Home, and at Hagerstown Reproductive Health Services where she also lobbied at the state and federal level for health care rights and access for women.
Early in her professional life she represented families at law hearings, in paternity suits, and in custody cases across Washington and Frederick counties, administering medical assistance programs and food stamps, securing child support, and advocating for children with abusive or neglectful parents through her employment with the department of social services, the state’s attorney’s office, and the Legal Aid Bureau.
She was a lifelong member of Saint John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hagerstown where she sang in the choir as a youth, and was a member of the usher team, and served at coffee hour.
Linda was a Past Honored Queen of Bethel #26 of Hagerstown, MD, International Order of Job’s Daughters, a Past Bethel Guardian of Bethel #26 and Bethel #28 of Frederick, MD, and served as Grand Director of Music of Maryland for the Order from 1991 to 1992.
She is survived by her children, Wesley Decker (significant other Tammy Karn) of Mercersburg, PA, Lonna Seibert (husband Todd Taylor) of Burke, VA, and Laurie Seibert (husband Nathaniel Kelly) of Ijamsville, MD, and three grandchildren. She is also survived by her special friend of 33 years, David Lee Smith of Hagerstown, and her beloved rescue poodle, Petunia.
Always active, curious, and a lifelong learner, Linda enjoyed traveling, going to the theater, gardening, reading, and crossword puzzles. She loved overseeing improvements to her home, of which she was very proud, and she found great joy in cooking, baking, and decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas. She adored animals and over the years opened her home to many dogs in need, who all held very special places in her heart.
A service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac Street, Hagerstown, MD on Saturday, November 8 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and a reception will follow. Please dress in cheerful or autumn colors.
