5 Things to do this weekend: April 29-May 1

Groove with some tunes. The Loose Screws will be play at Music Makers, 46 W. Main St., during the second week of the WASHS Art Show, Friday April 29. The Loose Screws perform jazz standards from all eras. The band features Pat McNamee (sax and clarinet), Woody Payne (piano), Josh Vaughn (bass) and Bill Sievers (drums). The art show is open Friday from 5 to 8 and Saturday from 11:30 to 2 p.m.

Take advantage of Kids Day. The YMCA Kicks Off Summer with the Annual Healthy Kids Day Event featuring a full day of activities to celebrate kids being kids on April 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the YMCA, 810 E. Main St., Waynesboro. Healthy Kids Day will feature games, arts and crafts, swimming, and information about upcoming summer programs to motivate and teach families how to develop and maintain healthy routines. The event is free.

Make it safe. The Washington Township Police Department, along with the DEA, will host a National Drug Takeback Day Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rite Aid parking lot, 1513 E. Main St. Clean out your medicine cabinets and drawers of unused/unwanted/expired medications. WTPD will safely disposed of the medications.

See a show. No matter what the weather—hot, cold, rainy, windy—the Waynesboro Theatre offers entertainment. “Sing 2” (PG-1:50) will be shown Saturday, April 30, at noon and 3 p.m. and Sunday, May 1, at 2 and 5 p.m.  “No Time to Die” will be shown Saturday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m. All movies are $6 and include popcorn.

Celebrate the Greatest Generation. Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra will perform as part of the 84th Waynesboro Community Concert Association series on Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m. at the Waynesboro Area Senior High School auditorium. The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra is one of America’s few professional ensembles dedicated to the preservation and performance of America’s first popular music: Ragtime. The PRSO recreates the sounds of the concert stage, the dance halls, and the theatre – ragtime, dance music, theatre selections, and silent film accompaniment, all performed off the original musical scores. Tickets are $25.
