5 things to do this weekend

No broom required for this trip to Oz. The Waynesboro Theatre will screen “Wicked for Good,” a PG-rated musical adventure, at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at 75 W. Main St. The film follows Elphaba, the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West, as she reunites with Glinda to reshape the land of Oz and her own destiny. The feature runs 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Family fun sparkles at the library this winter. Washington County Free Library invites crafters of all ages to join its Family Take-and-Make: Sparkling Glue Snowflakes project at the Alice Virginia & David W. Fletcher Branch, 100 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, this weekend. Participants can pick up supplies and create their own glittery snowflakes to brighten a winter window.

Young superheroes in the making can leap into action at Chambersburg Community Theatre’s auditions for “Adventures of a Comic Book Artist.” The annual kids show will hold tryouts at 1 p.m. Friday at the Capitol Theatre. Open to ages 7–14, auditions will include singing, reading and dancing. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a calendar noting any scheduling conflicts through tech week.

Birders with a keen eye and a sturdy pair of shoes can take flight with the “SOAR” Bird Walks, a twice-monthly exploration of local habitats guided by Waynesboro’s Sharon and Larry Williams. The free public walk will be held Jan. 3 from 8 to 10 a.m., at Antietam Meadow Park.

Science fiction fans can travel from Arrakis to the edge of the galaxy without leaving downtown Chambersburg when Coyle Free Library hosts a Sci-Fi Day movie marathon Friday, Jan. 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 102 N. Main St. The library will screen “Dune” (2021) at 10 a.m., “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” at 1 p.m. and “Fahrenheit 451” (2018) at 3 p.m. Visitors can also browse themed displays and enter to win a “Dune” box set; attendees must be present to enter but not to win.
