5 things to do this weekend

Curiosity will take center stage when Hagerstown Community College hosts STEAM Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the college’s Athletic, Recreation & Community Center gymnasium, 11400 Robinwood Drive. The free annual event invites children and families from throughout the tri-state area to explore science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics through exhibits, hands-on activities, competitions, pumpkin decorating, food and music. All activities will take place indoors, with the goal of introducing young people to the fun and possibilities of STEAM fields. The HCC Alumni Association is the primary sponsor, with JLG Industries serving as a secondary sponsor and additional support from the Washington County Free Library, Washington County Public Schools and Wonder Book.

Pumpkins will roll, fly and fuel a little friendly competition during Buttonwood Nature Center’s Sunday StoryWalk® from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at Pine Hill Recreation Area in Waynesboro. The free event will feature “The Pumpkin Fair” by Eve Bunting, followed by pumpkin-themed activities, including pumpkin bowling, pumpkin juggling and a pumpkin seed throwing contest. Open to all, the walk is one of four special StoryWalk events held each year to celebrate the changing seasons through stories and activities. No registration is required.

Bidding on a basket could help turn the page for the Blue Ridge Summit Free Library. The library will host a silent auction fundraiser from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at the Top Secret Tap Room at Fort Ritchie with proceeds from auction sales benefiting the library. More than 50 auction baskets will offer something for the whole family, and multiple 50/50 raffles will be held throughout the event. Local singer-songwriter Rich Fehle will provide live music. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the taproom, and parking is available adjacent to the venue.

Treasure hunters can turn secondhand finds into support for the arts at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts’ 27th annual Treasure Sale, set for Nov. 7-8 and Nov. 10 at the museum in Hagerstown’s City Park. Organized by the museum’s volunteer Singer Society, the museum’s largest annual fundraiser will feature donated designer bags, vintage accessories, regional artwork, furniture, jewelry and collectibles to support museum operations. Admission is free, with shopping from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 7, 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 8 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 10, when shoppers can fill a provided bag for $20.

Holiday shoppers can check off their gift lists while supporting a community cause at Little Daisy’s Closet’s third annual Holiday Craft Show from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Quincy Community Center, 8098 Anthony Highway, Waynesboro. The event will support Little Daisy’s Closet, a Christian-based community outreach program that provides services at no cost, and feature crafters, vendors, a coffee truck and food. Children can enjoy a free petting zoo and craft station, pony rides for a fee and a visit with Santa from noon to 2 p.m.
