5 Things to do: May 20-22

Make it Taco Friday. Free tacos, movie and games Friday, May 20, at Antrim Faith Baptist Church, 248 W. Second St., Waynesboro. RSVP Friday before noon.

Check out a Civil War garden. The public is invited to the grand opening of The Institute’s Civil War era garden on Saturday, May 21, at 1 p.m. at the garden site near the Monterey Pass Battlefield Museum near Blue Ridge Summit. The garden will be an educational tool for area school children and for visitors to Monterey Pass Battlefield Museum. The 25-by-28-foot garden is enclosed by an historically-accurate wooden fence, constructed with reproduction 19th-century-style nails. With six raised beds and one 24-foot-long bed, the plantings will change from year to year, always with an eye to reflecting period gardens. The event will feature a brief program with remarks, garden activity for children, self-guided garden tours, and light refreshments. Admission is free.

Step into history. A new exhibit, “Exploring Jonathan Street: History, Art, Imagination” at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, details the fascinating discovery of a 200-year-old log cabin at 417 N. Jonathan St., Hagerstown. This exhibition, which runs May 21-Sept. 11, seeks to share the story of the traditionally Black neighborhood from the early 1800s to the present.

Get out of the heat. The Waynesboro Theatre offers big-screen entertainment for the community. This weekend shows include: Saturday, May 21: “Boss Baby Family Business” (PG-1:47) at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; “DUNE” (PG-13; 2:35), 7 p.m. All movies are $6, except where noted. Tickets include popcorn. Fountain soda and candy sold separately. For tickets, visit Waynesboro Theatre – NOW SHOWING or the theater, 75 W. Main St., Waynesboro.

Shop small. The Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce will hold the first 3rd Saturday in the Square on Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Greencastle Square.  Vendors include artisan craft and food vendors.
