Mrs. Sandra K. (Downin) Branch, 77, of Greencastle, PA, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning, August 22, 2026, at her home. Though she had been dealing with significant pain for some time, her passing came as a shock to those who loved her.
Born February 26, 1949, in Waynesboro, PA, she was one of six children born to the late Harry W. and Joyce Elaine (Gardner) Downin. With her passing, Sandra was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She graduated from Greencastle-Antrim High School with the Class of 1967.
Sandra married Donovan “Donnie” N. Branch, Jr. on September 9, 1968, in Hagerstown, MD. Together, they shared nearly 58 years of marriage and built a life centered not on grand adventures or faraway travels, but on home, family, and caring for one another.
Throughout her working years, Sandra was employed for approximately 10 years at Regency Thermographers in Waynesboro. She also worked alongside her husband, Donnie, in quality control while the couple lived in Miami, FL. Sandra retired in 2011 at the age of 62. Over the years, she and Donnie also made their home in Hagerstown before returning to the Greencastle area about 10 years ago.
Sandra’s greatest joy was found close to home, surrounded by the people and animals she loved. She was a devoted wife and mother who spent much of her life looking after her family and making sure those she loved were cared for. It was simply part of her nature to think of others and tend to the little things that made a house feel like home. Even something as ordinary as having Donnie’s coffee waiting for him when he returned from his morning walk with the dog became one of those familiar expressions of love that made up their life together. To her daughter, Sandra was not only a wonderful mother, but also her best friend.
Animals were another constant throughout Sandra’s life. She was rarely without the companionship of a dog or cat, and often had more than one. Her pets were very much a part of her family, and she leaves behind her beloved dog, Duke, and a few cats.
Family relationships meant a great deal to Sandra, particularly the close bond she shared with her younger sister, Angela. The sisters spoke on the telephone throughout the day, sometimes five or six times. Angela’s death on July 17, 2026, was a tremendous loss for Sandra. The absence of those familiar conversations and of the sister who had been such an important part of her everyday life weighed heavily on her in the weeks that followed.
In addition to her husband, Donnie, Sandra leaves behind two children, Tammy Fraley and her husband, Buck, of Hagerstown, MD, and Donavon “Donny” Branch III of Waynesboro; two grandsons, Tyler and David Fraley; six great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Willow, Aiden, Hunter, Logan, and Wyatt; a number of nieces and nephews; and her cherished pets, Duke and her two cats.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Angela M. Lease; and four brothers, Ronald, John, Timothy, and Doug Downin.
