Hugh “Sunny” Hettenschuller, 87, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 18, 2026, in Chambersburg.
Born on September 25, 1938, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, Sunny was raised by Harriet and Wilbur Rowe, who preceded him in death. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army.
Sunny dedicated his career to industrial sales, a profession that allowed him to travel throughout the United States. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.
Known for his quick wit and endless supply of dad jokes, Sunny had a remarkable ability to find humor in almost every situation. He lived an active life and enjoyed running, skiing, biking, and practicing karate. He had a lifelong appreciation for nature, loved reading, and was a devoted fan of classic cinema. A passionate supporter of Penn State football, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Nittany Lions. In his younger years, he was a proud member of a drum corps and continued to enjoy attending drum corps competitions throughout his life.
Sunny is survived by his daughter, Jessica Miller of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; his son, Brad Hettenschuller of Greencastle, Pennsylvania; his granddaughter, Arianna Lopez of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; and his great-grandson, James Hettenschuller.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walter, and his beloved grandson, Tyson Hettenschuller.
Sunny will be remembered for his humor, kindness, love of family, adventurous spirit, and the joy he found in the simple things in life. His laughter, stories, and unwavering optimism will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
