Rains washed away sprint car racing last weekend and are forecasted to do so again this week. But drama awaits on area speedways this season anyway.
At Path Valley Speedway, an intense battle between two brothers has been raging all summer long in the 270 Sprints division. Fayetteville’s Cory Myers is perched atop the points standings with 470, just three points ahead of his sibling Craig, of Chambersburg. Greencastle’s Bradyn Kuhn lurks in third place with 408 points and will have a lot of say into which Myers brother, if either, ends up with the points crown.
In Path Valley’s Modifieds division, Chambersburg’s Alyssa Rowe holds a slight lead over her peers with 158 points, just ahead of Brady Daniels (150) and Sam Reeder (148). Michael Walls, of St. Thomas, and Greencastle’s D.J. Myers are locked in a 198-198 tie for the points lead in the Late Models division, with John Moser in a distant third place with 143. The Thunder Cars points chase features four Franklin County drivers in the Top 10: Chambersburg’s Kevin Bard (4th, 378 points), Fayetteville’s Roger Traxler (7th, 304) and Cameron Defenderfer (10th, 292), and Greencastle’s Tara Kerlin (8th, 302).
At Hagerstown Speedway, the Local.News area boasts a Top 5 driver in all but one division. Waynesboro’s Tyler Horst owns a firm lead in the Crate Late Models, while Hagerstown’s Keith Reed is in control of the Pure Stocks. Wesley Bonebrake, of Hagerstown, sits third in the Late Model Sportsman standings with 619 points, but is within striking distance of leader Shawn Shoemaker, who leads with 644 points. Finally, the Semi Late Models division has a Hagerstown driver in its Top 5 — Brady Neff, who sits in fourth with 692 points.
On the road at Port Royal Speedway, Greencastle’s Gary Stuhler is tied for sixth place in the Super Late Models division. Another Super Late Models driver from Greencastle, Scott Palmer, resides in sixth place at BAPS Motor Speedway.
Sprint Car Hall of Famer Lance Dewease, now a part-time driver, is outside of the Top 10 in 410 Sprints points at Williams Grove Speedway, but he has been making noise in the track’s big-money series. Competing in the Grove’s Hoosier Diamond Series, Dewease is third in the points standings and has a win to his name.
Below is a speedway-by-speedway look at the points races of area raceways, as well as those which bear local interest:
