CHAMBERSBURG- A Valentine’s Day themed dance performance, The Romance of Dance will be presented by the Chambersburg Ballet at the Capitol Theatre’s Wood Center on Friday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m.

The Wood Center, Chambersburg’s only black-box performance space, is an intimate and appropriate setting for this production of eight original short ballet and contemporary dance pieces, including the award-winning jazz-on-pointe ballet “Stratus” by Artistic Director, Lavinia Reid, who will be retiring in August after 23 years at the helm of the company.

Also featured:

– Reid’s “Winter Scene”, a ballet set to six Strauss waltzes about the antics of ice-skaters, with a young hot-shot skater who enjoys “showing up” a teenage trio of a guy and two girls, and a pas de deux for a little boy and girl.

– Reid’s “Reverie”, a dreamy and elegant barefoot modern dance blended with ballet movement, set to Debussy’s iconic orchestral piece of the same title.

– Two ballets seen at last summer’s Chambersfest: One by former New York City Ballet ballerina Gretchen Patchell will be reprised, “Demoiselles d’Honneur”, plus a scintillating contemporary dance, “The Sea”, in bare feet for eight dancers by Chambersburg Ballet Soloist, Alcinda Burchill, and set to a modern adaptation of music by French composer, Erik Satie.

– Premiere of a contemporary dance solo by long-time Chambersburg Ballet alumna, Laura Burkholder.

Tickets for The Romance of Dance are $15 for adults; $12 for students age 6 an older; and $8 for children age 5 & under and can be purchased at www.chambersburgballet.org and at the door. Seating is general admission.
